What Makes a Royal Spa Different
Bob Dapper and Rick Bartlett started building hot tubs in south Indianapolis in 1981, and the company has always been run by people who design and build spas rather than resell them. That shows up in a few engineering choices that make a Royal Spa simpler and less expensive to own:
- Water that never sits still. A small, dedicated circulation pump keeps water moving and filtering around the clock, instead of shutting off for part of the day. Stagnant water needs more chemicals and more of your time.
- Push-through filtration. Water is pushed through the filter under pressure rather than sucked through it, so performance does not collapse as the filter loads up.
- A quieter deck. Skipping the large two-speed pump avoids the low hum that can resonate through a wooden deck.
- Simple, repairable controls. Royal Spa control systems rely on straightforward contactors and switches instead of a computer circuit board, so repairs are simpler and less costly.
- Standard filters. Replacement cartridges are standard sizes sold at pool and spa stores and home improvement stores, not only through us.
- Room to grow. Jets can be added later if your therapy needs change.

Our Story
In 1981, Bob Dapper and Rick Bartlett started Royal Spa in Indianapolis, Indiana by making hot tubs and support accessories. They were 18 years old and engineering students at the time.
Two years later, in 1983, Royal Spa was incorporated as the Royal Spa Corporation.
The primary product expanded from hot tubs to include saunas, swim spas, float tanks, baptistries, and whirlpool baths as the company continued to custom make luxury products.
In 1996 the focus of Royal Spa shifted from trying to make similar products for less money than our competitors to make the “Best of the Best.”
Today we are a full-service manufacturer with an over 89,000 square foot plant located in the southwest part of Indianapolis.

While others were making products that were cheap and easy to make, Bob and Rick decided to make them cheap and easy to own for our customers. Our different spa lines are designed to give customers the option to choose what best suits their needs. If it is related to spas, we make it from the ground up.
