What is the difference between an infrared and a traditional sauna?
A traditional sauna uses an electric heater and stones to heat the air, the classic Finnish sauna experience. An infrared sauna uses infrared heaters that warm your body directly, so it is comfortable to use after a shorter warm-up. FINSAUNA rates its Radia infrared series to reach 170°F in under an hour. The Radia TIR models include both kinds of heat in one cabin.
Do I need an electrician?
It depends on the model. Several infrared saunas plug into a household outlet: the Radia IR 200 runs on standard 120V power with a NEMA 5-15 plug, and the Fiera IR 100 needs a dedicated 120V, 15-amp outlet. A traditional sauna heater needs its own circuit, installed by a qualified electrician. Each product page links the installation manual with the details.
Is a heater included with a traditional sauna?
No. The traditional saunas we carry ship without a heater or control, so you choose a sauna heater separately. The Radia TIR hybrid models are the exception: they include a traditional heater alongside the infrared heaters. What warranty comes with a sauna?
Warranty terms come from each manufacturer. FINSAUNA saunas carry a 2-year residential limited warranty covering workmanship defects for the original purchaser, and Auroom and Haljas saunas carry 2-year limited warranties. Each product page lists the warranty that applies.
What does an outdoor sauna sit on?
Every outdoor sauna needs a stable, level foundation. For its outdoor saunas, FINSAUNA calls for removing the soil under the sauna and replacing it with well-drained, load-bearing material, and recommends treating the wood with a preservative during assembly. Installation manuals and, for several Auroom models, concrete foundation plans are linked on the product pages.
Can an infrared sauna go outside?
FINSAUNA infrared saunas are designed for indoor use. The Radia manual allows outdoor placement only with the optional Radia cover. Without it, outdoor placement voids the warranty.
